Repurposing and refinishing furniture has quickly became a passion of mine. When I saw this cute little desk I knew it would be the perfect refinishing project. I also knew that it wouldn't take a lot of work to give it a fresh fun look.
When I got it home I quickly started giving it a cleaning to paint it. I decided to do a charcoal gray so I could accent it with white. I decided to switch up my paint brand from my usual and go with Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra Matte Paint in Charcoal. I picked it up at my local hardware store here in Clarion, but you can get it at Walmart, order it online, or I am sure other places carry it in stock too.
Because I was using a chalk paint, I just roughed up the top a little bit with some sand paper and then began painting. After I got the coverage I liked, I wasn't thrilled with how the top was looking.. it felt too plain for me for a kids desk. I grabbed my go to paint, Valspar chalk paint in Kids Gloves. I started randomly painting spots and covered a majority of the top with it. After it dried, I went over it with my sand paper, making a marble look to it and tada!! Painting done. I sprayed it with 3 coats Minwax polycrylic water based poly spray paint to give it a good seal.
I wanted to do some cute handles so I hopped on Etsy to see what I could find. I found these ADORABLE handles and knew I had to give them a try. They were a little shinier than I thought they would be, but it added a great finishing touch! Just like that, this project was done!
